  1. Devils advocate here: is it possible JE wanted to repent and was trying to get involved in spiritual stuff? Especially a religion that has a celebrity god head like that…

  2. Nearly everyone seems to be under the fixed impression that the Tibetan Buddhists were living ascetic lives of monastic seclusion way up in the mountains before the Chinese showed up, and that it would be very puzzling that any of them would be up to no good. But then you do a little research and find that, just for starters, they were basically ruling over a slave kingdom.

Nothing is really that surprising after that.

Salacious title. He was there because celebs who support causes/charities (Free Tibet) go where the money is! To your latter point, and yes it was ‘bad optics’, a cultural tradition dating back to the 9th century was misinterpreted as something it wasn’t.

While less common today, particularly in modernized cities like Lhasa, it is still practiced by **older generations** and in **remote regions**.

    * **Etiquette:** It is often performed briefly as a polite acknowledgment.
    * **Playful Affection:** There is a specific variation called *”Che le sa”* (“Eat my tongue”) used by elders and grandparents. After giving a child a treat or a kiss, they might playfully stick out their tongue to show they have nothing left to give, signaling they have given “all their love”
