Global warming is predicted to open shipping lanes in the Arctic. It’s a weird bit of irony for Trump.

its always the minerals. neodymium, dysprosium, yttrium, and scandium deposits are just sitting there above newfoundland, waving from across the sea.

It’s crucial if they still intend to build the “golden dome”, it’s resource rich and largely untapped resources, it’s a strategic piece of land that allows a military stronghold between the US and Europe/Russia.
This is how the world has always worked, a large power notices value in a small piece of land and takes it either by purchase or by force (usually the latter)
Now it’s interesting that we are in the NATO alliance and essentially trying to annex another members territory.
The US has a history of land purchases, I don’t see why Denmark wouldn’t be keen on getting a large pay out or a stake in the resources that will be derived from the land.
The US also has a history of taking land by force, the Monroe doctrine gives essential precedent to the annexation of land and determining the sphere of influence.
Europe may not like it, but their best bet would likely be selling the island and staying in the US good graces.
From what we have seen this year, Trump isn’t really playing around he has the force to use and he is willing to use it.

Control of shipping routes, Panama Canal cannot handle some of the giant new modern ships, now they need to go past Greenland, and now there is a struggle for control over the water for control of the shipping routes
