Maybe, however the branch knots clearly end on the inside of the ‘rim’ in the 1st pic.

So how was the Tree knot sheered cleanly with beveled edges 300 million years ago? Although I think its comes from a creature similar to a sand dollar the “Spokes” aren’t uniform. Side note that is cool Ive never really thought of the knot in wood as a 3d growth.
