They’re trying to do that here in Ohio. It’s horrible. They seem to think the government just has money sitting around that they can replace the revenue with. If we actually end up getting rid of property taxes, they’re going to be shocked when income and sales taxes go up astronomically.

I really don’t know how people think this will work. I know imagining the government wastes all your tax dollars is a favorite fantasy of many conservatives but actually your town needs money to function and none of these people seem to have plans to replace that revenue

Time for a rebranding. They’re not “property taxes”… they’re Municipal Services Charges. You want to live in a town with streets and schools and firefighters? Expect to pay for it.

Litterally all the potential in the world, but the only thing that matters to the state is making sure the resource extraction companies stay rich.

Honestly, I’m fine with this as a compromise. What we *really* don’t want are for some houses to be tax shelters and others not. We will find other ways to raise taxes.
Why? If your neighborhood gets nicer, your house value goes up. Then you get taxed more. This incentivizes you to fight development and promotes NIMBYism, while disincentivizing improving local property values.
