    The doomer aspect is seeing Trump’s approval ratings for term 2 are better than when they were in term 1 amd even better than Biden’s approval numbers. Caveat is Trump’s reaching his floor faster in term 2 compared to term 1.

  2. After Trump’s first term, his approval ratings were innumerably awful. That did not stop him from completely rag-dolling the rest of the Republican Batch in the primaries.

  3. Trump has a hardcore cult of ~30% of the electorate who will never leave him, plus another ~10% or so on top of that who can be chipped off but only with difficulty. We’re now into the top layer of those people, but making further progress will be slow and will likely require escalating economic and societal pain (which is going to happen).
