A collection of polls done about Americans' opinion on American power today. One dataset that really jumped out for me was the one where a solid majority of 62% of Americans do not see their lives getting any worse if China surpasses the United States in power and influence.
"Of the respondents who said their lives would get worse, most expected their lives would become only somewhat rather than much worse. In all, just 14 percent answered that China surpassing the United States would make their lives much worse. This result indicated that very few Americans viewed the potential eclipse of the U.S. power position by China as being catastrophic, suggesting that the general public would not want to endure major financial, military, or other costs to prevent such an outcome."

Surprise surprise, voters care less about global moral leadership so long as they can get their white picket fence, healthcare, fast commute, and childcare, and a million before 30 if they say trade, hustle, “invest”, dropship, influence sponsorship brand enough, if they have the hard power of global leadership instead.
And so far, they can’t get the million, they can’t get the picket fence and the million before 30, and China seems like they can get the fast commute and childcare and healthcare AND influencer hustlers in glamour, even if they have tenements and not the picket fence that are state leased and nobody talks about how many dead end menial jobs there are.
Young people significantly less likely to think their lives will get worse if China surpasses the United States. Boy are those fucks in for a rude awakening.
It is depressing, though not all that surprising, that Americans continue to fail to understand that they owe their entire lifestyle to American power abroad. Those two giant oceans are our salvation and our fucking coffins.
