  1. Elections have consequences.  Electing a unqualified commie has really really bad consequences.

  2. Not to defend the Clown Prince over there, but he was inaugurated a month ago. NYCs failing infrastructure and public works departments go back *much* further than that, and none of the candidates would have been able to do much of anything about useless and corrupt public sector unions in the intervening four weeks.

    It’s largely the same situation in most deep blue cities – the political rot is deep and systemic. Of course electing a communist at the top of the ticket is the opposite of helping, but even electing the most conservative candidate available would have limited effect if you keep electing total lunatics to all the other positions and ceding power to corrupt unions.

    I see it here in Chicago too. Sure the mayor is a complete tool, but he’s just a symptom of a fundamentally broken political system. Nobody good wants the job, and whoever gets it is beholden to a bunch of unelected bureaucrats and locally-elected maniacs.
