So what are AI benchmarks and how useful are they in actuality? I imagine for things like coding and math it’s fairly easy to measure performance objectively but past that it seems much murkier. There also don’t seem to be any actual unified standards which given how much money the people developing AI models have riding on them seems kind of like just saying “trust me bro, look how good the model does at a test I just made up.” I’m not saying they’re useless, I genuinely want to know more but I also don’t take people who have hundreds of billions riding on something at their word about it.

  2. i understand complaints about pacing in film or television, but pacing issues in literature is literally a skill issue. if it’s too slow just read faster

  3. Gonna try to cut out sugar. Sounds like it’s gonna suck. But it’s a good clear rule to follow on the daily. I already don’t use it in my coffee and don’t drink soda.

People give me disconcerted even fearful looks when I say that I’m an Austrian Revanchist at heart, never understood why though…

Who wouldn’t want to go to go out for a night on the town with a young Stefan Zweig or wander fin de siecle Trieste?

tfw you’re a conservative and you’ve heard for years how woke the Olympics are now but they don’t even have any twerking events

  6. It’s kind of wild that Jimmy butler has just as many terrible playoff runs as good ones, and yet he is labeled as a playoff god. Like at a certain point it’s just variance. Part of it is him getting way too much credit for the bubble run due to how good he was specifically in the finals. He has a pretty similar playoff resume to Paul George just with a bit more luck.

  7. What are the chances that the Supreme Court is taking so long for the tariff decision because Roberts is trying to whip the justices to be unanimous like Warren did for Brown v Board?

I’m not Chinese but I suddenly feel an overwhelming urge to reclaim the mainland for the 3 Principles of the People, the White Sun, the Blue Sky, and Wholly Red Earth.

I have been searching for a succinct way to describe certain simple reality that is (rather dishonestly) ignored by a lot of people. I think this one gets pretty close:

It is not hypocritical to treat authoritarian regimes and democracies differently.

  10. I have been locked into this AntiMeme drama for the past few hours. Im pretty confident this is all fake. Memers used a glitch that allows you to view hidden profiles. They investigated her account and she’s an Indian dude. She was posting on Bollywood and other Indian subs. Very inconsistent about her age.

Idk if this is true but according to other dramafrogs in Hindi men and women talk differently. Like you would say “im here” differently depending on if you’re a girl or guy. This account used words a guy would use.

So the mod is either talking to himself using an alt account or he really did get catfished.

For those who are lost. Reddit mod didn’t hear back from his e-girlfriend so he pinned a post claiming she went missing. Everyone thought this dude got catfished. Then a few hours later he comes back and says he talked to her brother and she committed suicide. Then he posted the dms but they were a little weird so no one bought it.

Plagiarism and lying scandals aside, is Kosiński worth reading?

Like is *The Painted Bird* still meaningful if you know it’s not actually autofiction?
