  1. Submission statement: The rate of unemployment among those aged 18-24 has risen sharply in the last 3 years. This has been in line with steep increases in the national living wage over the same 3 year period.

For the record based on those numbers the unemployment rate among the general work force increased by 30% over the last 3 years while the youth rate increased by 34% over the same period, given the lack of any rigorous evidence provided in the article (and the plethora of confounding variables) I am not sure that we are seeing anything beyond marginal effects (obviously higher prices will always weakly decrease demand to some extent).

    (Leaving aside the question how economically desirable it is to get young people into sub 10 pound jobs)
