      On the Horn of Africa crisis. We’ve been hearing that Ethiopia and Eritrea are on a collision course for the last 18-24 months. Increasingly hostile rhetoric, posturing, etc.

      But the recent movements by the ENDF make me think war is actually imminent. They’ve withdrawn must if the troops who were in Amhara and Oromia fighting rebels and sent them north. Doing so has already allowed the FANO to seize significant territory, including its first major city. The Oromia rebels will be emboldened too. I think it’s fair to call it a disastrous situation for the Ethiopian government. At least it would be without a ln extremely pressing cause. Even if the ENDF turns south right now they face the task of reconquering territory they just held and in which the FANO is busy entrenching itself. This strikes me as a situation the Ethiopian government would only create if it sincerely believed a war was coming and those troops were genuinely needed in the north. And needed for combat, not messaging or bravado.

      The longer the ENDF is in the north – not fighting – the worse the situation in other regions will get. Essentially, Ethiopia’s redeployment creates a ticking clock for the army to either go to war or redeploy south. A “use-it-or-lose-it” situation. Historically, those situations have often lead to war.

      I’m thinking we should rename Midway International Airport after Dick Durbin after he retires this year, like Vermont did Leahy.

      We should call it Dick International Airport.

      I’ve always defended neoliberals because they’re ethical posters. But after the last DT, I don’t know if I can do that anymore. I saw too much. I know too much.

      As others below have said,

      The National Parks are INEFFICIENT USAGE OF LAND. We need to open up the economy to new natural resource and land usage!

      Take South Florida for example. WHY IS THE EVERGLADES A THING!? Imagine the profit margins Florida based investment firms would have if we simply abolished the Everglades National Park and opened it up to new subdivisions and luxury hotels. Think of the GDP increase!

      Or think about Yellowstone. Imagine if we expanded the parking and allowed a Walmart and hotels built all in the park to increase the tourist capacity? It’d help the GDP
