Everyone keeps saying Trump was "cleared" by the Epstein file review. Let's talk about who actually did the clearing and what they found versus what they hid.
Who "Cleared" Trump?
Every single person who reviewed the files and declared Trump innocent has direct personal ties to him:
- Todd Blanche (Deputy AG) was literally Trump's personal criminal defense lawyer in three separate cases before Trump appointed him to run the DOJ's Epstein review. He personally flew to interview Ghislaine Maxwell in prison. Legal ethics experts called this an unprecedented conflict of interest.
- Pam Bondi (Attorney General) received a $25,000 donation from Trump's foundation while her office was reviewing fraud complaints against Trump University. Her office then dropped the case. She later defended Trump in his first impeachment trial and chaired a pro Trump think tank. As Florida AG from 2011 to 2019, she never once investigated Epstein despite having jurisdiction.
- Kash Patel (FBI Director) admitted under oath he hadn't read all the Epstein files. Refused NINE times to confirm whether Trump's name appeared in withheld documents. Said he didn't know if the FBI had even examined Epstein's bank records flagging billions in suspicious transactions.
- Alex Acosta brokered the infamous 2008 "deal of the century" that gave Epstein 13 months in county jail with work release AND immunized all co conspirators. Trump then rewarded him with a Cabinet position. House Republicans later cited his closed door testimony as proof Trump was clean. Democrats on the same committee called him "not credible."
Not a single independent prosecutor, special counsel, or court has ever reviewed these files.
What's Actually Happening to the Files?
This is where it gets ugly:
- At least 16 files DISAPPEARED from the DOJ website within 24 hours of posting in December 2025. One was a photo of Trump with Epstein, Melania, and Maxwell. No explanation. No public notice.
- The Democracy Defenders Fund ran a comparison in January 2026 and caught the DOJ secretly re uploading MORE THAN 70 files with new or expanded redactions. Again, no notice, no changelog, no legally required justification.
- 550+ pages were completely blacked out in the initial release. A 119 page grand jury transcript was entirely redacted. FBI interviews with survivors? Missing. Internal DOJ memos on charging decisions? Missing. A spreadsheet listing 30+ Epstein attorneys and 60+ Deutsche Bank accounts? Referenced in emails but not in the production.
- The DOJ admitted it "primarily only reviewed its existing case files" meaning they deliberately excluded potentially millions of documents that reference Epstein but aren't in formal prosecution folders. Congress ordered ALL records released.
- As of January 7, 2026, the DOJ had released less than 1% of all relevant documents by their own count.
The Bombshell Nobody Is Talking About
On July 24, 2025, the SAME DAY Blanche was interviewing Maxwell in prison, FBI agents were emailing each other about "derogatory information" on several high profile individuals INCLUDING TRUMP, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and former AG William Barr. This was happening internally while DOJ leadership was publicly telling Congress and the press there was "no evidence" against Trump.
AG Bondi testified on February 11, 2026: "There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime, everyone knows that." The FBI's own internal emails from months earlier say otherwise.
The "Investigation" Into File Integrity
Senators Schiff and Durbin requested the DOJ Inspector General audit the chain of custody of all Epstein evidence back in December 2025. They asked for a report by January 19, 2026. A bipartisan group including Republican Lisa Murkowski joined the request. Epstein survivors separately demanded a third party review.
As of today, February 22, 2026: No audit completed. No findings published. No timeline given.
Meanwhile, the DOJ told Congress on February 15 that NO MORE FILES WILL BE RELEASED. Case closed, according to them.
Oh, and They're Spying on Congress
Members of Congress who want to view less redacted files must travel to a DOJ building, use only 4 government controlled computers, navigate difficult software, bring zero staff, and review files under DOJ watch. At that pace it would take over 7 YEARS to review 3 million pages.
Then in February 2026, AG Bondi was photographed at a hearing holding a printout titled "Jayapal Pramila Search History" listing exactly which Epstein files Rep. Jayapal had been looking at the day before. Even Republican Speaker Mike Johnson condemned it.
Rep. Raskin called it what it is: "spying on Members of Congress" performing their constitutional oversight duties.
Bottom Line
The people who "cleared" Trump are his former lawyer, his campaign donor, his hand picked FBI director, and the man who gave Epstein the sweetheart deal before Trump gave him a Cabinet job. Files are vanishing. Documents are being secretly re redacted. The legally required audit hasn't happened. And the DOJ is tracking which members of Congress are looking too closely.
