Submission statement: Another diplomatic incident between the US and a European country following US ambassador to France Charles Kushner's refusal to attend an official summon issued by the host country's government after comments on French domestic affairs were taken as an intrusion.

Charles Kushner, who is part of the Trump family as the father of Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared, skipped for the second time in eight months an official summon for explanations, causing the French government to bar him from direct access to cabinet members.

The summon was issued after Undersecretary Sarah B. Rogers, known for her virulent attacks against allied European governments' policies on freedom of speech, described the killing of far-right activist Quentin Deranque by far-left activists as an act of terrorism and encouraged the French government to modify its counterterrorism policies, which were interpretated as an unacceptable intrusion in domestic affairs by Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who moved to curtail Kushner's government access after his no-show.

This incident is the latest in a series of diplomatic spats caused by a more aggressive and assumed US policy towards European governments, as outlined in the 2025 Security Strategy advocating for more direct interferences in European domestic affairs, including building bridges with far-right opposition movements ideologically aligned with the Trump administration, causing unease and tensions with longstanding allies.
