According to the New York Times, a phone call from Donald Trump exposed deep tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Per the Officials briefed on the matter, Trump told Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had urged US sanctions related to the war in Sudan. The UAE denies backing the Rapid Support Forces, while Saudi Arabia supports Sudan’s national army. The fallout intensified an existing rivalry, spilling into Yemen, where Saudi forces reportedly struck an Emirati-linked shipment. The episode underscores how Sudan’s civil war has become a flashpoint in a broader Saudi-Emirati power struggle, complicating US diplomacy in the region.

I was curious if this was related to the Sudanese war.
Both sides are absolutely horrendous (with the RSF maybe just edging out the SAF by a hair), and there’s literally no recourse at the international level for a few of the players (UAE) because they have a reservation to the Genocide Convention that bars arbitration at the ICJ.
