In January 1941, according to Gallup, 88% of the American population opposed U.S. involvement in WWII. Then Pearl Harbor happened.
When the George W. Bush administration invaded Iraq in March 2003, the war had 72% support among Americans. The administration used 9/11 to build a terror and WMD propaganda campaign to justify the invasion.
It is rumored that Donald Trump’s administration would prefer, for public opinion purposes, that Israel strike first, hoping that when Iran retaliates against Israel, it will also target American assets in the region. What Politico didn’t mention is: what happens if Iran doesn’t take the bait? In that case, a sensational strike could be arranged and blamed on Iran.
