Submission statement: An analysis of the state of Botswana's elder care policies and its shortcomings. The center left UDC has increased pensions but the researchers identify deeper systemic problems that remain. Relevant to rNL because it is about policy and Botswana, one of the sub's favourite countries. Even though Botswana is more liberal democratic and stable than most other African countries, it still has problems worth studying (as all countries do). The broader context is also that government revenues are falling as the natural diamond market declines. And yet the center left government is increasing social assistance and it still isn't quite enough.
To discuss: How should Botswana deal with the desire to deepend its social welfare system while its core industry is in a likely permanent decline?
