Well duh, the guy wasn’t even the first supreme leader, just one of many bad apples that the Mullahs picked from to be the ruler.
To have regime change you need a strong, organized opposition with a charismatic figurehead and a security apparatus that is willing to switch sides if given amnesty for prior crimes; neither of which seems to have be in play as of yet.

Then we wasted a great deal of diplomatic and foreign policy capital to remove an 86 year old man who likely would have died of natural causes soon anyway.
Now we might get an even worse hardliner in Iran, and they will accelerate the production of a nuclear weapon after what happened.
