  1. Submission statement: French President Emmanuel Macron has held a speech on French nuclear doctrine. Macron announced that France will increase the size of its nuclear arsenal. Going forward, France will not publicly disclose how many warheads it has.

Additionally, Macron says that the French nuclear doctrine needs a European dimension. This is happening in “full transparency” with the US and “in coordination” with the UK. Macron named several European countries as important partners in this endeavor. Specifically, Germany as “a key partner” as well as Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Poland.

Lastly, France will work with the UK and Germany on ‘very long-range missile projects’ as part of ‘advanced’ deterrence.
