  1. 1. Summary

A Japanese court has upheld an order to dissolve the controversial Unification Church, local media report.
Last year, a district court in Tokyo ordered the church to disband after Japan’s education and culture ministry accused it of manipulating followers into making huge donations.
On Wednesday, the Tokyo High Court denied the church’s appeal and rejected its argument that the donations were part of legitimate religious activities.
The church, popularly known as the “Moonies”, came under scrutiny after the shock assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe in 2022.

    2. How this related to sub

    (1) The separation of church and state:

Unification Church has stolen billions from their Japanese followers and spend that money to lobby for an underwater tunnel between Japan and Korea. Hundreds of LDP politicians and dozens of Korean politicians received that money. They meddle in politics of two countries and it backfired hard on both countries. Shinzo Abe, a former Japanese PM related to Moonies got assassinated and Yoon Suk-Yoel, whose wife received bribe from Moonies, attempted an armed insurrection to cover up that scandal, leading to the biggest constitutional crisis of Korea since 1987.

    3. My opinion

The crackdown on Unification Church in Korea and Japan made J.D. Vance rage in anger. The US Vice President consider Korea & Japan as the persecutors of Christianity because he believes this move to counter Moonie influence is against “religious freedom”.

P.S. The full extent of this scandal…is only known to Korean National Police and Ministry of Justice. “TM reports”, a pile of confidential internal documents of Unification Church seized by Korean police, detail hundreds of politicians in Korea, Japan and the US who got bought by Moonies. Many politicians from LDP and Republican Party in the US are said to be mentioned….but that parts are all redacted and only the parts related to Korean politicians showed up in Korean courts. Many Japanese journalists visited the trial of Han Hak-ja ( the head of Moonies ) to see if they could find the full truth, only to be disappointed.
