Here in Ohio, we currently have a citizen-initiated voter initiative that is attempting to pass a new constitutional amendment eliminating property taxes. Most politicians are against this—including the Republican governor and legislature—because it will blow a hole in the budget and be highly regressive. As of now, the proposed amendment doesn’t have the signatures to make it on the November ballot, but there are still a few months before the deadline.
That said, we may have some positive developments come out of this in that some legislators are proposing alternative amendments to try to head off fiscal Armageddon. Thought the sub would appreciate it.
