I’ve seen this play out in real life. Many art collectors will “support” young talent, funding them, purchasing their works at a pro forma discount, and supplying them with their vices. Once their art is climaxing or they start to get uppity – oopsie, tragic death and all the art goes up in value because what a sad, sad narrative.

I love Chris Farley but c’mon! He was obese, heavy drinker, smoker and addicted to cocaine. He was known to literally order two of everything on the menu when eating out. He thought he was invincible but he also idolized John Belushi and was fine going out the same way as his idol.
