  1. >The U.S. is making its offer of security guarantees for a peace deal in Ukraine conditional on Kyiv ceding all of the country’s eastern region of ‌Donbas to Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told Reuters in an interview.

Obviously the Ukrainians aren’t naive enough to accept this but it would be interesting to know exactly what these “security guarantees” mean in actuality. Probably nothing meaningful unless this results in a Senate-ratified treaty which Witkoff hinted at almost a year ago now. I think the only hope of Ukraine receiving any U.S. help in the event of Russia violating a hypothetical future ceasefire is that Trump’s ego would bruised if Putin breaks this deal they’ve been chasing for a year and a half now. In reality, the only way to stop the Russians from simply rearming and trying again after a ceasefire would be U.S. boots on the ground which would be political suicide for any party it seems like.

  2. I think, unfortunately, everyone rational understands that Ukraine will not emerge from this war intact and that fate was sealed the day it started.

**It doesn’t mean the US administration should be so enthusiastic about it**
