This is a nice update on the state of South Africa's electricity situation.
It has been over a year without rolling blackouts, and more like 2 years since I have seriously thought about blackouts in my day to day life. In 2024 there were just a handful of weekends where power was gone for a few hours. The last time we had regular, recurring loadshedding was in 2023.

If you are interested in this, you should also research about the unbundling of Eskom, which is being broke up into separate generate, transmission and distribution companies, run independently and with much more private sector involvement.
It should be noted that a decade of constrained supply means that industrial demand is not as high as it could be or should be to support growth – industry stagnated because of loadshedding. But with the genuine improvements in generation capacity, as well as the unbundling and privatisation, we should expect electricity supply to grow over the next decade and industrial demand to return. I have previously posted a few articles about reforms in rail and ports. If Ramaphosa can close out his term by locking in these reforms, then we will see the return of real growth and a decline in unemployment.
