Seattle in 2018 had one of the best school districts in the country, with students performing 1.68 grade levels above the US average. But there was a problem: black students performed significantly worse than white and asian students. Seattle attempted to solve this inequity not by devoting more resources to struggling student, but by lowering standards, reducing gifted and honors programs, and introducing more social justice curriculum. Soon both overall and black students test scores fell and rich family pulled their kids out of public schools for private schools.
