
Submission Statement: U.S. semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials said on Thursday that it will invest $5 billion in India over 10 years as it seeks to expand its footprint in the country at a time when the government is pouring billions into creating a chip manufacturing and packaging ecosystem.
India put its semiconductor ambitions on display at the three-day event in New Delhi that spans chip materials, design, fabrication and packaging, and which has drawn more than 600 companies and representatives from 52 countries. India's semiconductor consumption is projected to reach as much as $110 billion by 2030, up from $45 billion to $50 billion in 2025, according to government estimates.
This announcement followed other announcements during the event such as Lam Research's $1 billion commitment to expanding manufacturing in India as well as Infineon AG expanding it's India workforce by an additional 28% over the past year.
