Australia Post has begun searching for a new chief executive after Paul Graham announced he will retire at the end of June 2027.

Graham, who joined as Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director in September 2021, will leave after more than five years in the role.

The board will consider internal and external candidates to replace him, with the Federal Government working with the board on the appointment.

    Board credits Graham with reforms

Australia Post Chair Siobhan McKenna said Graham oversaw major changes across the business as the postal, parcels, and logistics sectors faced significant upheaval.

“Paul delivered landmark reforms under our Post26 Strategy with the support of our shareholders and launched the next phase of our modernisation through our Post30 plan. He has strengthened our role in Australia’s eCommerce economy, enhanced the customer experience and transformed our operations. These strategies have set Australia Post on a clear path to long-term sustainability.

“Paul has led Australia Post with purpose, determination and energy through a period of significant challenge for our business and the broader industries in which we operate.

“On behalf of the Board, I thank Paul for his leadership and his commitment to our customers, our people and the communities we serve. His leadership has positioned Australia Post strongly for its next phase,” McKenna said.

    Graham to oversee handover

Graham said it had been a privilege to lead Australia Post.

“Australia Post is a remarkable organisation with a unique place in the lives and hearts of the Australian community, and I am extremely proud of what our team has achieved.

“We have worked hard to ensure Australia Post remains one of the very few national postal operators to not require government funding and remain in public hands, while continuing to invest and grow our operations and supporting our team members, licensees and the Australian community. I remain fully focused on delivering our priorities and supporting a smooth handover.”

Communications Minister Anika Wells and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher thanked Graham for his service in a joint statement. Graham’s career in logistics and supply chains spans more than 40 years.

He will continue to lead the business through the remainder of the financial year while the board searches for his replacement.
