The special prosecutor’s team has secured a list of 120,000 People Power Party members who are presumed to be followers of the Unification Church. Ahead of the 2023 People Power Party convention, it appears that, at the request of Geonjin Bopsah (a shamanistic figure), the Unification Church attempted to systematically enroll its believers as party members in order to support lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong.
As the special investigation proceeds, suspicions are gaining traction that both Shincheonji and the Unification Church sought to influence the People Power Party’s 2022 presidential primary by orchestrating the mass enrollment of hundreds of thousands of members.
It has also been revealed that when Yoon Suk-yeol attempted a coup on December 3, he received support from extremist evangelical pastors and shamans, who have since been arrested. They were indicted for inciting the January 19 Western District Court riot and for conducting illegal electioneering inside churches.
