The collapse of Pokrovsk has been ongoing for several weeks now. The Russians effectively cut off the city by fires. CASEVAC and resupply is essentially only done on foot and a lot of the wounded are basically being told to just make the best of it where they are.

I mean yeah, it’s bad there. Putin wants to capture at least one of the frontline towns by the end of the year

It’s a very weird battle, different from other urban battles in this war in that the same infiltration tactics are being used that are usually seen in fields and treelines. For instance just recently Ukraine did a counterattack that pushed all the way to the city center, [this guy](https://xcancel.com/konrad_muzyka/status/1986186162197971199) has a good summary of the situation:
“As seen in many recent Ukrainian counterattacks, Russian forces—though advancing—often maintain low force density. This allows relatively small Ukrainian units, such as an infantry company or battalion (it does not apply to this video), to push the FLOT significantly, particularly when supported by combined assets such as drones, electronic warfare, and artillery. The main challenge, as always, lies in sustaining these gains given Russia’s dominance in drones and artillery, and Ukraine’s shortage of reserves to exploit tactical successes.”
Ultimately though Russia will slowly consolidate control of the city building by building as their infiltrators pressure the Ukrainians out more and more. Unless Ukraine can deliver a powerful counterattack the likes of which we haven’t seen them do since 2023, the Russians will take the city. It’s more a question of when and how much Ukraine is going to lose (a lot of it unnecessarily) to squeeze some more days out of it
