The United States-proposed Russia-Ukraine peace plan now has fewer points following negotiations in Switzerland to try to make the draft proposal more acceptable to Ukraine, according to a Ukrainian official close to the matter.
The initial 28-point peace plan now has 19 points, according to the official. It is unclear what points were removed.
The updated proposed peace agreement does not include a strict limit on the size of the Ukrainian army, a source briefed on the matter told ABC News. Under the initial proposal, the army would have been limited to 600,000 personnel.
The issue of amnesty for acts committed during the Russia-Ukraine war will not be included in the new version of the draft peace proposal, the source added. The initial plan had stated that all parties involved in the conflict "will receive full amnesty for their actions during the war."
U.S., European and Ukrainian officials met in Geneva to discuss the contentious proposal put to Kyiv last week, with terms critics say would constitute a Ukrainian capitulation.
On Monday morning, U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at headway being made. "Is it really possible that big progress is being made in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine???" he wrote on social media. "Don't believe it until you see it, but something good just may be happening," Trump added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday that his delegation was heading home and, once he is briefed on the talks, "we will determine the next steps and the timing."
"As of now, after Geneva, there are fewer points, no longer 28, and a lot of the right things have been taken into account in this framework," Zelenskyy said on social media Monday. "There is still something to work on together — very difficult — to make a final document, and we need to do everything with dignity." Zelenskyy said he will discuss "sensitive" issues with Trump.
The Kremlin’s top foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, told reporters on Monday that the proposal would require revision by all parties and that so far no one has discussed it with Russia, which he said had received the initial 28-point plan.

I don’t get why this was such a problem to begin with tbh. They’d need to draft about 25% of the male population under 30. Unless you’re North Korea, that’s not happening in peacetime.
Waiting for nothing to come of this and Donald completely forgetting about it in a weeks time. This is what, round 5 of him trying to “end” the war since January? He just entirely goes off who glazed him last.
The peace plan really only needs to be one point.

I’ve read reporting in NYTimes that says Ukraine is responding to the proposal. They don’t agree with all the points but at least they are talking. Additionally, the article said that both Russia and Ukraine are facing a lot of domestic issues and both need to find a way to end the conflict. Finally, the article noted that there is a proportion of Ukranians that are appreciative of this, as at least it’s some sort of movement.
Also the article noted that there is precedence for a European-only tripwire force (georgia–i had no idea what the details are) given Russian objection to NATO. And the commentators thought this was a proposal that could actually turn into a peace deal.
So it is still “weaken your military and hope that you don’t get invaded for the third time”….
If Ukraine is not given at a minimum a NATO membership or NATO troops deployed alongside an armistice line. This is going to go down as one of the dumbest “peace” agreements of all time….
