Croydon’s (in London) suburban design guide – which allocated the entire borough for new 3 storey flats if they follow design rules – led to a massive increase in home building and the subsequent local government scrapped it

The subsequent local government was Conservatives who won the council and mayoralty after being out of local government in Croydon for over a decade. One could say NIMBYs voted them in to stop them.

One of the ways in which so many new builds were built was that detached homes were bought, demolished and they would build a block of flats (apartments) on top .
