The idea of having someone whose job is to examine government spending for waste and fraud is a good one. It’s what inspectors general are for in the US, and every recent Republican president has tried to fire them ASAP. It is NOT what DOGE was doing, though. What they were doing was theft and vandalism.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with DOGE as a concept. Clinton did it and it worked out great. The problem was we didn’t trust the people in charge of executing it (for good reason) to carefully consider where government could make efficiency gains instead of just slashing and burning. Idk anything about the current Japanese admin, but I would bet on them being at least a bit more considered.
