      Disney is creatively both reactive and rudderless enough that I wonder if the Kylo Ren movie will get made after all now that they see there’s interest at least online. These are the people who decided to have Reddit write and direct Episode IX because the backlash to The Last Jedi scared them so much, after all.

      Adam Driver’s performance as Kylo Ren is one of the few universally-acclaimed aspects of the sequel trilogy, and their reason for rejecting the pitch at first was “erm, what would be the lore reason for him to be alive 🤓” after they made an entire movie about a dead guy being alive and didn’t explain it. The internal consistency of Wookieepedia strikes me as a flimsy reason to continue ignoring it rather than considering it on the financial and franchise merits.

      There’s more or less nothing else going on in Star Wars that anyone cares about right now. You now have people actively clamoring for a movie in a universe you accidentally turned into a fucking mid-tier streaming franchise and still have no idea how to fix. Yes, there’s more to running a franchise than appeasing its core fanbase, but, what, you’re gonna ignore actual demand for a specific product about a broadly well-liked character? When you have so little else going for you and barely seem interested in trying to come up with stuff anymore? They might as well do it, so maybe they will.
