The Eurogroup elected Greece’s finance minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis as the president of the Eurogroup. His only opponent was the Belgian deputy prime minister Vincent Van Peteghem. The job had become vacant when Ireland’s Paschal Donohoe stepped down to take up a position at the World Bank. In the media he is often hailed due to its time as Greece’s minister for digital governance. He replaced the infamous queues and paperwork of the Greek state with digital alternatives.
