They say Neanderthals, then include them as human ancestors. This is why the year is pushed back.
Until the last decade or so most people thought Neanderthals simply died out and were not interbreeding with humans at a high level we now know they did thanks to DNA.
These people were Neanderthals that used fire 400,000 years ago, and fire likely goes back to the ancestors of both Neanderthals and modern humans.

What are you mad about here? That archeologists are still finding shit all over the world? Yeah, the last time we found ancient evidence of fire usage it was from 50k years ago. Then we found more from even further back. What do you expect the outcome to be? “Ah shit well we already wrote down in anthropology textbooks that we first harnessed fire 50k years ago, so I guess we should just throw this 450k year evidence in the trash”.
Also, why the fuck would you grant any incredibility to the Daily Mail? This article says “humans discovered” but it was Neanderthals mentioned in the discovery.

To me this is more of an issue with carbon dating. It’s not as accurate as advertised
