When I was 16 I think I assumed that at 26, I’d be working low-level IT support if I was lucky and food service or chronically unemployed if I wasn’t, living in the NYC area where I grew up and probably in a shitty neighborhood, possibly having completed a BS, never having dated, probably with a substance addiction, and with very little money.

I’ve now got a master’s, worked two years as an engineer before joining a PhD program, live out west, have enough savings to live on for a while if I lost my job, not addicted to anything, and have dated. Guess I’m doing better than I thought, although I was a pretty fucking pessimistic 16 year old.

  2. Im sick of hearing about Boomers, millennials and Zoomers. Also Gen X and Gen Alpha. Also the greatest generation and the silent generation. Please stop talking to me.

You ever think about how sword swallowers got into the business?

Someday they must have been putting a large object down that thang and someone said “You know, you could make some real money doing this.”

And they thought it over and decided on swords with dull edges. Probably had a few close friends really confused 4000 years ago.

“I had something different in mind but I’m happy it’s working out for you.”

So the Bondi beach bystander story has even more twists, turns out he is a Syrian form Idlib who served as a police officer under Assad’s regime.

Crazy how whenever a minority group worries about being scapegoated after a tragic event, people on this sub (and on twitter but that place is a shithole anyway) scramble to post the one Norm tweet to be like “actually we shouldn’t care about this.”

[Like after the Somali community expressed concern about being scapegoated because of the Minneapolis fraud scandals.](https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/1papa5b/how_fraud_swamped_minnesotas_social_services/nrlrgb7/) Then Trump sent in ICE and they arrested random US citizens because they “looked Somali.”

And, apparently learning nothing from that, [the same thing after yesterday’s foiled attack plot in Germany](https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/1pmdv2l/five_arrested_over_plot_to_attack_german/nu0ejki/?context=1).

    > Marry “hardcore liberal feminist history ph.d”

Babe when did you get so *political*

    > Fall for the ‘Twitter Files’, imbibe the Free Press, believe Democrats are a lawless, violent faction crushing free speech and rapidly executing an authoritarian takeover of the United States

Babe I think you’re being radicalized by some of the stuff you’re reading on Substack

  7. I think *Wake Up Dead Man* was really good, potentially better than the first movie, though I haven’t seen it in a while

Did Trump killing USAID kill off what could’ve been a demographic dividend for many African countries?

  9. I can’t believe there’s actually a growing SxF fans who thought Loid truly don’t care for his family when it’s clear since first chapters that he regained his compassion due to Anya, or how he didn’t just put the bullet in Yuri’s head because he cared for Yor and currently in turmoil because of it. What kind of story they read there, man?
