From what I heard, the student was actually failed for not following instructions (read a paper, then answer three questions about it) rather than from making Christian references. The assistant was probably let go more for the bad publicity than anything else.

Worth noting that the graduate instructor is a guy that goes by the name Mel. No doxing here as this is reported in various legitimate stories. Mel appears to be a knucklehead that dresses like women have traditionally dressed. Guess he thinks if a person squints hard enough he looks like a woman.
