There was a time in the late 2000s, when the year-1990 commercial high speed copier just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Aside from mounting wear&tear and the steadily declining quality of the service contract attached to it, the newer copiers were ***just better.*** The hundred thousand dollar ten thousand pound machine that kicks and roars has the same output (on a good day) as the more recent ten thousand dollar five hundred pound machine that hums and doots.
Scale that concept way way up, and you’ve got ships. If the cost of upkeep is higher than the cost of procurement then all upkeep is doing is maintaining a little piece of history so the future can look at it. Newer carriers saving manpower through automation eases logistics (less supplies/materials to carry,) which adds to the savings from having fewer people directly on the ship itself.

Democrats despised the military and used it as a laboratory for social experimentation. Not since Ronald Reagan has there ever been a president like Trump who was so supportive of the men & women in uniform.

At present, the US navy badly needs frigates, or something like them, but their attempts to get one have been utterly disastrous. Arleigh Burke Destroyers are simply too big and expensive to use for everything, but right now theyre the only functional design with large enough numbers to kinda/sorta fill that role.
