According to the “2025 Survey on Koreans’ Attitudes and Values” released on the December 23rd by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a survey was conducted on public perceptions of multiculturalism. Sixty-six percent of respondents said multiculturalism is helpful in securing labor, while 61.3 percent believed it has significant positive effects, such as strengthening social inclusion. In addition, 56.5 percent said multiculturalism does not weaken national cohesion, and 58.2 percent responded that it does not diminish pride in a single-ethnicity national identity.
This indicates Koreans have more positive views on multiculturalism compared to Japan, which record 60-70% anti-multiculturalism opinion. This indicates a government-sponsored multiculturalism narrative which equates migrant workers as past Korean migrants to the First world might be working. The government has been appealing to the past suffering of Koreans for the empathy for immigrants.
