The United Arab Emirates said it will withdraw forces from Yemen: ā€œIn light of recent developments and their potential implications for the safety and effectiveness of counterterrorism missions,ā€ the UAE will pull out remaining personnel ā€œof its own volition,ā€ the ministry of defense said in a statement on Tuesday. Abu Dhabi had earlier denied allegations by Riyadh that it’s been directing a separatist group in the south of Yemen in a way that threatened the border of Saudi Arabia. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country’s priorities in Yemen are ā€œsupporting the restoration of legitimacy and combating terrorism, while fully respecting the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen.ā€ It said the shipment to Mukalla contained vehicles for use by UAE forces.

I’ve remained ignorant of this situation.Ā

Is it the case that Saudi Arabia and the UAE are backing opposing factions in South Yemen that are both trying to rule the part of the country not ruled by the Houthis?Ā
