Consider this a part two to my previous post about right-wing American individuals and institutions behind the scenes envisioning a post-Trump world.
After the fallout between Donald Trump and Elon Musk over DOGE, the threat from Musk was quite palpable according to this article. The establishment of the America party would’ve taken substantial votes away from the GOP and as such JD Vance, and other figures such as David Sacks began coordinating behind the scenes to get Musk to back down.
The fact that they managed to shows the growing entanglement between the tech-right and the Republican party. Indeed, the death of Charlie Kirk was a moment in the turnaround between Musk and the GOP. While Kirk’s death had little impact on mainstream thought in American society, the loss of a behind-the-scenes person who was central to coordinating key GOP figures (more on this in a future article, but Kirk was apparently much more pivotal to the creation of the modern right-wing in American politics than I thought) “compelled [Musk] to act by what happened”.
This, with other peace terms like allowing Jared Isaacman to head NASA, shows how even as there might be temporary scuffles between members of the tech-right and broader Republican party, shared interests and mutual dislike for Liberal thought keeps pulling them back together. And despite the failure of DOGE overall, it is still seen positively by Republican party members, as it broke institutional norms around what’s acceptable in the federal government.
