
I'm confused. Wouldn't this move be an overkill that negatively affect domestic American consumers? Correct me if I'm wrong but, wouldn't this prompt American importers and retailers to increase price of goods at wholesale to compensate for the tariff? Local American companies might increase the price of their own products, keeping it just a tad bit lesser than imported products, just for profits. I only see ordinary American consumers being given short end of the stick here.

It’s a bipartisan bill I think. Anything beyond 25% already prices these countries out. So even if it goes 1000%, doesn’t change anything. Trade diversification will happen, it will force both India and China to figure out how to invest and trade more with other countries and each other.
