Equatorial Guinea relocates capital to Ciudad de la Paz

  1. Equatorial Guinea has finished the construction of Ciudad de la Paz/Djibloho, and will now seek to actively move all government services to the city by the start of 2027. This does mark a significant shift for the country, and moves the population centre to the region inhabited by the majority of the country. I can’t really find much on how the city is thus far, so can’t really comment, but the main governmental buildings seem to have been built for a few years, and it is closer to a majority of the country, so it’s probably a wise move to make? I’m broadly speaking out of ignorance, though, and would appreicate further input on this.

For once, this is actually pretty good

Previously the capital was one an island far from the mainland where most of the population lived. Despite being a fairly small country with oil nearly half the population doesn’t even have clean drinking water

Maybe being in the thick of it rather than on an island far away will encourage a less Colonial mindset among the national leadership

I mean its 2 million people and they’ve exported like $5 billion a year in crude and natural gas. It’s probably one of the most criminal examples of African corrupt governance
