A Japanese court sentenced Tetsuya Yamagami to life in prison for assassinating former prime minister Shinzo Abe in 2022. Yamagami admitted shooting Abe with a homemade gun at an election rally in Nara. He said he acted out of resentment toward the Unification Church, which he blamed for bankrupting his family.

Yea Japan doesn’t usually do death penalty for single murders. Guess assassinating a former prime minister isn’t an exception lol

It certainly did expose the influence of the Unification Church over Japanese politics.

  4. Murder is actually really frowned in Japan. It goes against the traditional concept of 生きる, which means “to live”
