For the global poor: [https://archive.is/P3d8Q]( https://archive.is/P3d8Q)

This opinion piece by David Wallace-Wells in the failing new york times argues that Trump is changing tack on the new cold war, where conflict is reduced in favor of creating a global community of shared future for humanity. Greater cooperation would allow building an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity, turning people’s longing for a better life into reality.

    # Inspirations for Abundance Liberalism

David claims that abundance liberalism (one of arr neolib’s favorite topics) was inspired by envy of foreign megacities and infrastructure, like images of “all those high-speed rail lines, miles-long bridges and elevated roadways snaking through skyscraper cities.” More generally, how abundance liberals can take inspiration from other countries’ progress on green tech, robotics, research, ship building, and (perhaps most importantly to arr neolib) housing construction.

Also, the US is not doomed. Demographic challenges in the largest non-american economies mean that they may have already peaked and are in store for Japan-style lost decades ahead, leaving the US in comfortable first place. Low profitability and youth unemployment stand out as major problems for America’s competitors.

    # Deescalation of Global Tensions in Favor of Trade

The military operation in Venezuela, threats against Cuba and Iran, attempts to take Greenland, and bullying of Europe do not fit a narrative about great power rivalry, but rather a change of strategic priority away from great power conflict. After all, you wouldn’t engage in great power conflict by burning your allies and soft power.

While not necessarily détente, a cooldown in tensions has allowed an increase in global trade (one of arr neolib’s favorite topics). Trump has blessed Carney’s new EV-Canola oil trade deal, reduction of liberation day tariffs, and reduced export restrictions on Nvidia chips.

And my favorite quote from this article: “We simply haven’t yet found the intellectual courage to face *it*.”

  2. Off topic slightly. But I really am confused by what many MAGA people think winning the cold war meant. It was a battle of ideas for spheres of influence. The US “won” the cold war by converting most of the world to it’s system of ideals and using that to cement itself at the global hegemon. Becoming extremely rich in the process.

The current MAGA ideology completely undoes that. The US is currently in a process of reversing what it gained from “winning” the cold war. It will take a decade or so. But these decisions now will have ripple effects that make the US much much poorer.
