I mean, I’ll wait to see what happens before I start consuming it personally but cultivating animal cells in vitro is definitely a real thing we’ve been doing for a while.
The first big one to hit the market was in 1990 when we started producing rennet from bioengineered bacteria cultures for making dairy products. Rennet was traditionally made from the stomach lining of the 4th stomach of calves (part of why veal is/was a thing, they needed the stomach to make cheese).
We’ve definitely improved in our methods in the last 35+ years, I just won’t be one of the test subjects personally.

We are so removed from our food and where it comes from. As a Chef I do like this.

Yet another reason to be Amish. With the way things are going, I might need to sell my phone and buy a straw hat pretty soon.

I’m conflicted. Part of me likes the idea solely because of zoonotic diseases and how much the meat industries contribute to them. But I’m also concerned there may be consequences of lab grown meat that the public is not aware of and will never be allowed to be made aware of. It’s sad because if research was done, done honestly, and shared freely, my doubts could be put to rest and I could fully support it (or not).

Stick to the OG ways if you wish to eat plant based/Vegan/Vegetarian; black bean burgers, lentil burgers, fermented soybeans, falafel. They’re really easy to make and you know what ingredients you have in your food.

It’s an abomination. It’s basically cancer. Ban it.

I don’t have any problems with it.
Why should I?
