  1. Relevance to NL: North Korea is the most totalitarian country in the world. It still maintains a tight centrally-planned economy. The country incubates a ton of potential which is unfortunately being squandered because of the sitting leadership.

    The CCP, for all its faults, experienced a massive wave of development when Deng implemented market reforms. I could forecast similar developments in North Korea if such privatization took place. At one point, it was considered the more developed and prosperous side of the peninsula. It ostensibly has one of the highest literacy rates in the world too.

    Perhaps, Kim Jong Un’s successor could resemble the next Khrushchev or even better Chiang Ching-kuo (son of Taiwanese dictator (Chiang Kai Shek), who paved the path for democracy to emerge.
