Snack bar BB Kitchen in Sneek has been declared bankrupt. It is the third time in a few years that a similar company in the old weighing house closes its doors. According to city center manager Jan Siep van den Bos, however, there is definitely room for such a business.
The snack bar was a sole proprietorship, a franchise of BB Kitchen. That chain is located throughout the Netherlands and opened this branch in Sneek less than a year ago.
But within a year, the snack bar will be closed again. The reason for the bankruptcy is simple, according to José Kemper, who is handling the case with a trustee: more costs than benefits.
"The turnover was insufficient. As far as is known, the debt is 350,000 euros, but it may be more."
**Third snackbar in a row**
So it is the third snackbar in just a few years that has closed at this location on the Waagplein, a busy location in the city center of Sneek with many catering establishments that are doing well.
The reason for closure was different for each of the three companies, according to Van den Bos. "Three times in a row, that's unfortunate."
>If you've had a drink, you’ll want to have fries afterwards. That fits there.
He thinks it's a shame. "This was from a young entrepreneur, he was very enthusiastic. And it was a different concept than the Febo and the Snackpoort, which were previously in this area. It's a pity that this affects him."
The Waagplein should be the perfect location for a snackbar.
"There can be a good snackbar there. If you've had a drink, you want to have fries afterwards. That fits there."
The location has a historic character. It used to be a weighing house and is therefore part of the historic route. "Maybe you should turn it into an old-fashioned building again," says Van den Bos.
The business will remain closed at least for the time being, but Kemper remains hopeful.
"We are looking at the possibilities for a restart, we are still investigating this and we are in talks about it. At the moment I can't say anything further about this."

Why do snackbars at Waagplein in Sneek keep going out of business? It’s literally an ideal location to have a snack, especially after having some drinks.
