Good article on OpenAI and other AI firms seeking profitability through adding advertisements to their chatbots and the worries on the effects this could have. Honestly I think this is an inevitable but backwards decision. I want to believe a lot of people would be pushed away from using or trusting AI if they knew it could be advertising to them but then again I don’t actually have so much faith in the average person. Still probably not going to fix OpenAI’s core woes of seeking profitability though.

  2. Because money. Having said that, it seems that the money in AI is ultimately going to be in the enterprise, meaning that the consumer will be subsidized one way or another. The ads may just be a way to make consumer divisions profitable.

Companies/people produce quality info – > AI slurps up quality info -> Less profitable to produce quality info -> people need to rely on AI for quality info -> profit
