The United States Central Command said it carried out 10 airstrikes against more than 30 Islamic State targets in Syria this month, retaliating for a December ambush that killed two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter. Since the December 13 attack, at least 50 IS members have been killed or captured and over 100 targets struck, according to the military. The assault had prompted fresh action under Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Separately, Syrian government forces said they had taken control of the long-standing US run al-Tanf base in eastern Syria. The US also completed the transfer of thousands of IS detainees to Iraq for trial, at Baghdad’s request, in a move welcomed by the US led coalition.
