  1. **Submission statement:** A strike carried out [earlier this week](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdxgln3gnd6o) by the Pakistani Air Forces, aimed at terrorist encampments along the Afghanistan border, has escalated into retaliatory attacks between Afghanistani and Pakistani forces in the region. Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid now claims that Taliban forces have captured 15 military posts, and that numerous Pakistani soldiers have been killed/captured. For its part, Kabul has claimed that the Pakistani air strikes targeted civilian homes and a religious school, with women and children among the dead.

**Why this is important:** The recent events mark the end of a fragile ceasefire negotiated by both sides last October, and could lead to further bloodshed. While the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan initially prompted celebrations
in neighboring Pakistan, relations between the two countries have soured ever since the Pakistani Taliban launched a renewed insurgency against the government in Islamabad. Pakistan accuses the Afghanistani government
of providing support and shelter to the insurgents.

Who knew that keeping snakes in your backyard was a bad idea? Well, I hope it turns into a god-awful quagmire for them. Sucks to suck, maybe you shouldn’t have stabbed your buddies in the back when they were trying to get rid of them.

One gets the impression that the Pakistani security community absolutely didn’t expect that a Taliban victory in Afghanistan could lead to a reconciliation between the Afghan and Pakistani Taliban. Wind, whirlwind, etc.

I hope and pray that civilians will find their way safe out of the conflict zone.
