π΅π± Polish PM Tusk: *Poland is in talks with France and a group of closest European allies on the programme of advanced nuclear deterrence. We are arming up together with our friends so that our enemies will never dare to attack us.* https://xcancel.com/donaldtusk/status/2028496777570037849

We are witnessing the birth of the United States of Europe.
So Macron just dropped a very big bomb;Β the new European doctrine of forward deterrence. France will expand its nuclear arsenal in cooperation with other states and also station them in other European states. Especially for GermanyΒ this is huge progress in a traditionally difficult area. The first step toward a European nuclear deterrence.

and I have established a nuclear steering group in which we coordinate on deterrence issues. We intend to take concrete steps before the end of this year, including conventional German participation in French nuclear exercises.*

The West’s failure to protect Ukraine and what’s happening to Iran now make it pretty clear that if you want to protect your sovereignty, you must have a nuclear deterrence.
Can we pretend Quebec is part of Europe and station some there? Asking for a friend…

How jupiterian of the man.
Interesting. Eisenhower proposed the NATO nuclear sharing agreement in the 1950s, in part to persuade West Germany not to develop its own nuclear deterrent, but it didn’t dissuade France. Now, as NATO members question American resolve and Germany may see advantages in its own arsenal, Macron is doing the same thing Eisenhower did.
